N&R front-pager reports a commercial real estate company is working with the Piedmont Triad Partnership to purchase land for the Randolph County megasite, which was given a reprieve when the state renewed its $1.6 million grant late last year.

Here’s what jumped out at me –the quote from Sam Simpson of Simpson Schuman ans Beard:

Simpson knows he’s walking into a situation where many landowners are defiant about holding onto their land. A group organized more than a year ago to fight the megasite.

“If there are enough people who are interested in seeing this land used for a megasite, then we’d like to talk to them and explore the possibilities,” he said.

I don’t know if that’s actually the way Simpson said it or if Richard Barron was just searching for a word when paraphrasing. But to actually read in the local newspaper that landowners ‘are defiant about holding onto their land’ is unsettling.
