I received the following today in response to a letter I sent to Asheville’s Master Planners.

Leslie,
I guess we do continue to disagree on many things. But one of them is not the importance of the free market. The role of a plan is to remove obstacles (political, design, infrastructure, etc) that ultimately choke off the ability of the private market to function if they are not addressed. A great plan helps build a productive partnership between the public and private sectors. We live in a democracy, which means in part that all of us need to recognize that many voices need to be at the table in shaping the future of a downtown. I look forward to your future thoughts. David
