A State Board of Elections investigation of a voting drive in Swain County has been escalated to the Department of Justice. Questions were raised after two prominent partisans helped over 120 downtrodden individuals from trailer parks, low-income housing, and nursing homes vote. On behalf of the alleged voters, the two partisans requested absentee ballots, filled them out, and returned them to the Board of Elections. The investigation was undertaken to ascertain whether the two required witnesses were present at the signings, and whether or not the partisans coerced any of said “voters.”
