Sen. Neal Hunt, R-Wake, introduced an amendment that would require
all incoming UNC students to have a criminal background check before
being admitted. The amendment was in response to murders at
UNC-Wilmington in 2004.

“This amendment would make sure a convicted terrorist would never be admitted,” Hunt said.

Sen.
Tony Rand asked Hunt to pull the amendment, however, because it would
force the bill to go back to the Senate’s Finance Committee. Hunt
agreed to pull the amendment to bring it up later in a seprate piece of
legislation.
