Recall that back in April Gov. Bev Perdue announced a half-percent salary cut for all state employees — including teachers. A couple weeks after that CMS said that not just teachers, but all CMS employees would take that hit as well.

Now with revised paychecks in hand, teachers are wondering if that decision dinged them twice — once on their state salary and once on their local supplement and extra-duty related pay. At worst, CMS mistakenly hit teachers on more than just their state-salary, which was what DPI gnomes had intended. At best, the CMS board vote to include all employees in the half-percent cut ipso facto included all CMS pay to teachers as well — a fact that was poorly communicated, if not purposely hid, from CMS teachers.

At any rate, CMS teachers are hot about it and — as ever — wondering where all the money goes down at the EdShed.
