Remember the last Dem debate, when everyone was afraid to bash Hillary after the audience got involved by booing and laughing at anyone who tried?

Well, I ran across this from CNN’s Web site regarding the Oct. 15, 1992 Bush-Clinton-Perot debate moderated (if you can call it that) by Carole Simpson (emphasis added):

The audience expressed disdain for personal attacks and urged the candidates to stick to the issues. That sentiment hindered Bush from attacking Clinton on his draft record as well as on so-called “character” issues. The questions focused primarily on domestic issues and the economy, which were seen as Bush’s weaker areas. There was only one question on international affairs (Bush’s strength).

In those less-suspicious times, when the full sleaziness of the Clintons had not been demonstrated, did it ever occur to anyone that the audience’s expressing of disdain to “urge” the candidates to lay off Bill’s character issues might have been orchestrated by the Clinton team, and perhaps with the complicity of CNN? After CNN’s dreadful complicity last week, It doesn’t sound too far-fetched.

Looks like maybe even Bill had a ?you-can’t-hit-the-girl? strategy going in 1992.
