This is weird:

Davidson County commissioners vot-ed last night to approve up to $640,000 in incentives over the next 11 years for a European metal-working company that could bring at least 180 jobs and an investment worth at least $20 million.

The metal-working company has plants in 14 countries and plans to initially invest in a 100,000-square-foot plant, said Steve Googe, the executive director of the Davidson County Economic Development Commission, during a public hearing on the proposal.

…Googe said the name of the company so quickly during last night’s hearing that it was hard to understand. Googe would not clarify the name after the hearing, citing the confidentiality of the incentives negotiations.

What can’t Googe say to the media that he couldn’t say to the commissioners during a public hearing? And was there no one else to ask the name of the company?

We’ll see if listening skills are better over at The Dispatch.
