This week’s Rhino takes a look at Guilford County offcials stumping for the quarter-cent sales tax on the November ballot:

Chairman of the Board of Commissioners Kirk Perkins said to those watching the meeting of the sales tax increase, “If it doesn’t pass, we are going to raise your property taxes.”

The part that Perkins didn’t say is this: If the sales tax increase does pass, the board will no doubt raise property taxes as well – some argue that taxes won’t go up as much if the sales tax option is adopted, but citizens probably would be wise not to hold their breath.

Note that economic development officials are pushing for the sales tax, no doubt hoping for more money for economic incentives
