• The latest High Point University poll, released Monday, reveals bad news for the state’s political leaders, but only one of them’s on the ballot this fall. Republican Gov. Pat McCrory and U.S. Sen. Richard Burr have approval ratings of 37 percent and 29 percent, respectively. Democratic U.S. Sen. Kay Hagan, who’s in a tough re-election fight, has the support of only 33 percent of the North Carolina adults surveyed. The General Assembly had a 32 percent approval rating — much higher than in other polls. President Obama’s approval rating was 40 percent.

• Republican U.S. Senate candidate Greg Brannon is due in court next week to defend himself in a civil lawsuit involving two investors who claim he defrauded them when they provided start-up capital for a failed Internet venture.
