• Two more districts in the state Senate will have new representation after the election, as Sens. Thom Goolsby, R-New Hanover, and Michael Walters, D-Columbus, on Friday announced their retirements. Also announcing he will not seek another term is Rep. Mark Hollo, R-Alexander.

• The battle for the Republican nomination for the 7th Congressional District between former state Sen. David Rouzer, R-Johnston, and New Hanover County Commissioner Woody White is shaping up as a regional skirmish between the Eastern Piedmont and the coast.

• San Francisco Bay Area Democrats will be dining on North Carolina cuisine, thanks to the 49ers playoff win over the Carolina Panthers. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi will enjoy Bojangles chicken after winning a bet on the outcome of the game with Rep. Richard Hudson, R-8th. Similarly, Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell will get a shipment of North Carolina barbecue from Rep. Robert Pittenger.

• Dallas Woodhouse, former director of the state chapter of Americans for Prosperity, has stepped down as campaign manager for Phil Berger Jr.’s bid for the Republican nomination in the 6th Congressional District. The move was expected as Woodhouse, a Wake County resident, did not want to move to the 6th District, and Berger plans to hire a local to run the campaign full-time.
