• Former Commerce Secretary Keith Crisco, who’s running for the 2nd Congressional District nomination as a Democrat, releases a biographical campaign video in which he promises to serve no more than three terms.

• Republican Taylor Griffin, who’s challenging incumbent GOP Rep. Walter Jones Jr. for the 3rd District, raises questions about a mailer Jones sent to constituents at taxpayer expense.

UPDATED: Gov. Pat McCrory says the 12th Congressional District special election to fill the seat formerly held by Democratic Rep. Mel Watt will take place Nov. 6, the date of the General Election. The winner of the May 6 primary (or a subsequent July 15 runoff, if needed) will be the Democratic nominee in November. This space initially reported that the special election would take place May 6.

• Four Republicans seeking the nomination for the open 6th Congressional District seat and four GOP candidates for the U.S. Senate post held by Democrat Kay Hagan appeared at a Monday forum in Greensboro hosted by the Conservatives for Guilford County PAC. Congressional hopefuls Phil Berger Jr. and Zack Metheny did not appear with the House candidates, and House Speaker Thom Tillis, R-Mecklenburg, was not at the Senate portion of the event.

• In case you missed this morning’s Carolina Journal Online report about the unusual dealings in the Union County town of Indian Trail, outgoing Councilman David Waddell says he will enter the U.S. Senate race as a candidate on the Constitution Party ticket.
