• Republicans in North Carolina’s 31st Senate District have nominated Joyce Krawiec to serve the remainder of Republican Pete Brunstetter’s term. Brunstetter resigned from the General Assembly last month. Krawiec will serve in the General Assembly for the rest of the year and has a a chance to run for a full term of her own during this year’s elections.

• The grass-roots conservative group Freedom Works named Rep. Walter Jones Jr., R-3rd District, the most conservative member of North Carolina’s congressional delegation.

• And get well soon: Jones had surgery Monday to deal with kidney stones. He’s reportedly recovering well.

• The Tax Foundation in Washington, D.C., named state Senate leader Phil Berger, R-Rockingham, one of six recipients of an award signaling Outstanding Achievement in State Tax Reform. Berger was cited for leading “the legislative effort to enact the year’s most significant tax reform. …”
