• This Sierra Club ad, running in Asheville, is targeted at Duke Energy shareholders, but — along with the “Fracking Crew” ad running in the Triangle — it’s a signal that environmentalists will be active in the fall campaign. It uses the coal ash disaster to urge Duke to stop producing energy from coal and other carbon-based sources (in other words, abandoning the majority of its energy portfolio).

• U.S. Senate candidate and House Speaker Thom Tillis, R-Mecklenburg, gets another prominent endorsement — this time from two-term Rep. Renee Ellmers, R-2nd District.

The local chamber issued a press release distancing itself from the national chamber and the ad.

• Factcheck.org looks at two ads discussing immigration from 7th District GOP candidates White and his rival David Rouzer. It’s not impressed with either.
