• 6th U.S. Congressional District Democratic candidate Laura Fjeld’s latest television ad attacks Republican “Tea Party” challenger Mark Walker’s positions as “too extreme for North Carolina.” Fjeld also is touting her endorsement by the National Association of Realtors’ PAC.

• The latest High Point University poll of likely voters in the Senate races in North Carolina, Colorado, and New Hampshire has good news for Republican House Speaker Thom Tillis: Tillis and Democratic incumbent Kay Hagan are tied at 40 percent. Add a decimal point, and Tillis is in the lead, 40.4 percent to 39.5. Libertarian Sean Haugh received 7 percent, and 13 percent were undecided. In last month’s HPU poll, Hagan led Tillis by 2 points.

• The National Republican Senatorial Committee has announced it will spend an extra $6 million in North Carolina on behalf of Tillis in the final weeks of the campaign.

• At a Monday fundraiser for Rep. Renee Ellmers, R-2nd, former Hewlett-Packard CEO and California GOP nominee for governor Carly Fiorina called “war on women” rhetoric from Democrats “propaganda.” Earlier, Ellmers dropped by WXII12 in Winston-Salem for a brief interview.

• Also in the 2nd District, a Sanford man was charged by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office with removing yard signs for Ellmers’ Democratic opponent Clay Aiken.
