• Mitt Romney, the 2012 Republican presidential nominee, backs GOP House Speaker Thom Tillis’ bid for incumbent Democrat Kay Hagan’s U.S. Senate seat in an ad for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Romney will make a campaign stop for Tillis today in the Triangle.

• Along with Romney’s support, Tillis (and Rep. Mark Meadows, R-11th) will get a boost today in Winston-Salem from U.S. Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, a Tea Party favorite.

• The Washington Examiner’s Tim Carney (a John Locke Foundation Headliner event speaker) discusses “corporate cronyism” by the Hagan family.

• In Forbes, Patrick Gleason of Americans for Tax Reforms says North Carolina’s huge leap in the national rankings from 44th to 16th in the Tax Foundation’s Business Climate Index should be a bragging point for Tillis.

• The North Carolina Democratic Party has employed “voter shaming” as a way to (it hopes) embarrass its voters so much that they’ll feel obligated to head to the polls. The tactic doesn’t get high marks from some current (and former) Democrats.

• Tonight’s the night: The only televised debate featuring 6th Congressional District candidates Laura Fjeld (Democrat) and Mark Walker (Republican) for the open seat. The debate is set for 7 p.m. on WGHP/Fox 8.

• Former Arkansas Gov. and GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee endorses fellow Republican David Rouzer for the open 7th Congressional District seat.
