• The final Elon University Poll of the campaign shows Democratic U.S. Sen. Kay Hagan maintaining a 4-point lead, 45-41, over Republican House Speaker Thom Tillis. The Elon Poll found an even 50 percent of respondents favoring same-sex marriage, a finding that differs from the High Point University poll cited below.

• It’s official: Spending from all sources on North Carolina’s U.S. Senate race has surpassed $100 million. Adjusting for inflation and the number of registered voters, the contest remains on target to be the third-highest in state history.

• Contrasting with the Elon findings, a High Point University poll released Tuesday shows 58 percent of likely voters continuing to oppose same-sex marriage and 60 percent opposing recent court rulings overturning state-level bans on same-sex marriage. The High Point survey of Senate voters found Hagan and Tillis tied at 44.

• The conservative group Justice for All — which ran advertising in the primary cycle against Justice Robin Hudson that many believed backfired — has bought ad time on stations in the Triad and Wilmington to go after liberal-leaning judicial candidates.

• The Washington Post looks at the door-to-door efforts in the Tar Heel State to boost turnout from conservative Americans for Prosperity and liberal Planned Parenthood.

• Speaking of ground game, the AFL-CIO is vowing to bring 60,000 voters to the polls, presumably to cast ballots for Democrats.
