• Time for closing arguments via advertising. The National Republican Senatorial Committee runs a spot going after Democratic Sen. Kay Hagan using Kay Hagan’s 2008 campaign observations.

The Hagan campaign is touting the incumbent’s newspaper endorsements, including one from The Charlotte Observer calling her a “disappointment.”

• Longtime political analyst Stuart Rothenberg shifts his call in five Senate races, including North Carolina’s, moving it from “tossup/leans Democrat” to “pure tossup.”

• With that in mind, several new polls show the tightness of the race. The Democratic Public Policy Polling firm (in a survey conducted for the League of Conservation Voters) has Hagan up 1 point over Tillis, 47-46, with Libertarian Sean Haugh receiving 4 percent. In a two-way matchup, the Republican firm Vox Populi has Tillis leading Hagan, 48-43. And the conservative Civitas Institute also has Tillis ahead, but by only 1 point in both a head-to-head matchup with Hagan and a contest including Haugh. Meantime, in a conference call with donors, Tillis said, for the first time in the campaign, internal polling shows him even with Hagan, not trailing her.

• PBS has chosen Watauga County as one of the “six bellwether counties” nationally to watch for election-night trends.

• Speaking of election night: Your humble correspondent will provide election analysis Tuesday from 8 p.m – 11 p.m. (and possibly later) on the Curtis Media Group statewide network. I’ll join host Donna Martinez and Carolinian editor Cash Michaels. Not all stations will carry the coverage, but we will be on the flagship station WPTF680 in the Triangle and 600 WSJS in the Triad. You also can listen live online at WPTF.com and via the WPTF smartphone app. Hope you’ll tune in!

• MyFox8 in the Triad has the video of this week’s debate between 6th Congressional District candidates Laura Fjeld (Democrat) and Mark Walker (Republican) here.

• Happy Halloween! Be safe, and watch out for really scary political operatives. If you want to vote early, find a location and hours here.
