• Tonight at 7:00, Democratic U.S. Sen. Kay Hagan and Republican state House Speaker Thom Tillis meet in their second of three debates. It will air on WRAL-TV and wral.com. • A new projection from political scientists reported by The Washington Post suggests Republicans could take control of the Senate, 52-48, with Hagan holding her Senate seat. Democrats currently have a 55-45 majority.

• In case you missed it, GOP U.S. Rep. Renee Ellmers, and her Democratic opponent Clay Aiken, met Monday in Pinehurst for their only scheduled debate for the remainder of the campaign. Carolina Journal’s Barry Smith covered it here.

• State Senate leader Phil Berger and Tillis (in his role as House speaker) vow to continue their battle in court to defend the state constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage.

• U.S. Rep. Patrick McHenry, R-10th, state Rep. Jason Saine, and other local politicians got an earful from senior citizens Friday in Lincolnton.

• 7th Congressional District candidates David Rouzer (Republican) and Jonathan Barfield (Democrat) made weekend appearances at the opening of a new riverwalk in Brunswick County.
