• U.S. Rep. Mark Meadows, R-11th, suggests the House will use the lame duck session to pass a spending resolution funding most of the federal government through the current fiscal year with one exception: The Department of Homeland Security, charged with implementing President Obama’s executive action on immigration. Meadows predicts DHS will be funded only through the first few weeks of the new Congress, when Republicans will control both chambers.

• Rep.-elect David Rouzer, R-7th, knows his committee assignments for the 114th Congress: Transportation and Agriculture, two committees with important roles in his district.

• Rep. David Lewis, R-Harnett, will chair the powerful House Rules Committee in the 2015 General Assembly. The Rules chairman sets much of the legislative agenda and decides the bills that come before the chamber for votes.
