The seven protesters arrested for disturbing the peace at speeches by former U.S. Reps. Tom Tancredo and Virgil Goode at UNC-Chapel in April delayed their first court appearances — initially scheduled for today in Orange County District Court — until Sept. 14.

The News & Observer reports that Haley Koch had her case continued. Koch held a banner in front of Riley Matheson, head of the local chapter of Youth for Western Civilization, as Matheson introduced the Colorado Republican April 14.

The other six protesters, arrested at the Goode event April 22, could have walked away with minimal fines had they admitted guilt. But they refused.

You have to wonder the defense strategy. They can’t claim false arrest. Maybe they’re hoping for a sympathetic jury, like the one in Colorado that ruled in favor of serial scam artist Ward Churchill, also in April.
