Not really, writes Karen Palasek in the new Spotlight report, “Truth on Teacher Shortage.” In fact, the “exponential growth” in public school enrollment discussed by Gov. Mike Easley isn’t backed up by projections from the National Center for Education Statistics. According to NCES, our state’s schools will have an enrollment decline after 2007 – mostly due to an aging population. Palasek discusses the findings, and the importance of moving to a market-based teacher recruitment system, NBC 17’s “At Issue.” Donna Martinez also discusses the report on next Friday’s “Carolina Journal Report,” which airs at 7:50 a.m. on State Government Radio (570 am in Raleigh.)
