Seriously.

How else do you explain Clarke’s attempt to change Confederate History Week to a “Civil War History Remembrance Month?” First, a month is not a week. Was that an attempt to shift the focus of the proclimation away from Confederate Memorial Day? That day has been observed on May 10th for years in North Carolina.

And does not history subsume remembering? We are to remember remembering? Finally, nothing subtle about dropping “Confederate” from the wording.

Thank goodness that County Commissioner Wilhelmenia Rembert saw through all this posturing to the unvarnished truth: North Carolina was part of the Confederacy, and that part of Charlotte’s history cannot be ignored or spun away.
