Or maybe saunters. In any event, the former city councilman told WBT’s Keith Larson this morning that he has given friends and supporters his blessing to write in his name for mayor of Charlotte. Reid, who served eight years on the city council, said Charlotte conservatives do not have anyone to vote for when confronted with a match between Republican Pat McCrory and Democrat Craig Madans, and so he was offering his name up as an alternative for voters who might otherwise stay home.

Reid also said that Republicans in city government do not run, let alone govern as Republicans, much less fiscal conservatives. He pointed to the city’s preference for spending on light rail and Uptown attractions over police and pothole repairs as an example of misplaced priorities the past few years.

The powers-that-be cannot possibly have a problem with an alternative candidate like Reid. After all, they keep telling us that the $450 million South Blvd. choo-choo is just an “alternative” to roads, right?
