I recall my trips across the state in the depths of the recession, seeing towns with only a Subway, a dollar store, a resale shop, a gas station, and maybe a couple other businesses. For kicks, I would count the number of boarded up buildings.

Then, there was the Research Triangle area. School kids were knocking the tops off curves. Shopping malls were fully operational. It looked like a scene from the 1990s or something.

So now, the president is going to visit the Research Triangle area for “an event on the economy.” Let’s hope he is on an educational mission rather than a campaign to lead the area away from its economy based on innovating and creating tradable products.
