The dearth of knowledge about history among young Americans is most depressing. The current “communique” from Mike Antonucci’s Education Intelligence Agency available here gives some fresh evidence. Scroll down to #6: The Gulag Was Not a Christmas Fireplace” and you find that according to a recent survey, only 8 percent of American students knew what the gulag was. But the Americans were better than the British, at only 5 percent. I suppose the education establishment could spin that into a triumph.
