A Chicago company
has filed suit against the NCAA because the association will not let
the company use the phrase “March Madness” during internet broadcasts
of sports shows. Intersport’s lawsuit makes the right claim that the
Illinois High School Athletics Association used the term “March
Madness” long before Brent Musburger
was credited as using the phrase in reference to the NCAA tournament on
CBS in 1982. Both the NCAA and IHSAA have joint ownership of the term
“March Madness.”
This seems to be nothing more than a company
wanting to get some publicity during the NCAA Tournament, which starts
today, out of a situation that is not worth a lawsuit.
