The Mountain Xpress informs me, through the mouth of Tom Tveidt, who is making a lot of appearances in local media these days, that I don’t know squat about economics. The article states unemployment is possibly twice as bad as Governor Pat McCrory claims. And, get this, it is not homogeneous among industries and populations.
The people who do understand economics, evidently, are the good folks at Just Economics. They think greedy capitalists should ment wages out of the firmament. They think employers should pay a living wage of $10-12, which, in turn, would allow jobs to open when people cut labor time back to 30 hours a week. Somehow, I think they would argue I am way, way overpaid at about $5/hr for around 100 hours a week. Some people – me, not them – just don’t have the computational proficiency to understand IMPLAN’s ROI’s.
