You just can’t make this stuff up. Your state civil servants and officials helped themselves to a free cruise. Gov. Mike Whatshisname is running away from the deal faster than lead sinks:
“We did not approve it and do not approve of it,” Easley spokeswoman Sherri Johnson said.

The state Department of Transportation is picking up $2,800 in fuel and staffing costs associated with the trip.
The ports has not said how much it will pay for a spread of shrimp, scallops, desserts and other foods. It has said that a steel drum band that played during the cruise cost $1,200. Ports funds are collected from customers that use the ports, though state taxpayers give to the ports for capital projects.
Ah, yes. Shrimp, scallops, and steel drums. Another vital government expenditure.
