The N&R follows up on the chaos surrounding the proposed taxpayer-financed downtown hotel. If you remember, yesterday’s speculation was whether or not the Greensboro City Council inadvertently signed off on the hotel when they approved the application for the funding. Nobody seems —and mean nobody —– seems to know if that’s indeed the case. Unbelievable.

All I know is Assistant City Manager Andy Scott told the council in no uncertain terms that the Dec. 15 motion to take advantage of fed bond money did not bind them to any project —-the council would be asked to approve such projects as they came before them following a public hearing. If indeed Scott did not properly advise the council on such a major issue, I would think his job would be in jeopardy.

I really hate to belabor the point, but if the City Council had just said hell no in the first place, they we wouldn’t be in this mess right now.
