What happened to build it and they will come? Somebody isn’t wishing hard enough. Traffic planners are indicating there might not be enough magic (state) money to implement the visions of the traffic plans; in fact, the state expects to run billions of dollars short. The state wants to pass the nega-bucks to local governments. Asheville’s master planners have already recommended sticking automobile drivers with the bill through increased parking fees. Meanwhile, Asheville’s transit planners are busy trying to recruit “choice riders,” or people who can afford cars but have been persuaded to ride on subsidized transit instead.
