The Rhino’s John Hammer says context is important when listening to the Wray-Brady tapes:

However, in the one concerning Wray’s neighbor, Brady didn’t know he was being taped. People say things all the time that they don’t really mean…..Mayor Holliday constantly says that somebody really needs to drill down on that” or “we just don’t have time to drill down on that like we should.” Of course the mayor isn’t talking about drilling anything. He’s talking about studying a situation. It is an odd word choice but if you took his words out of context when he says, “We need to really drill down on that massage parlor deal,” you might think he was talking about something entirely different.

Which reminds me of the Brady quote that Mitchell Johnson specifically mentioned when giving his presentation: “It’s amazing what I get paid for, isn’t it?” Now Johnson made it seem like Brady was relishing the task of ahead of him when he made that comment. But when I heard it on tape, I detected sarcasm in Brady’s voice, as if it was just another bullshit task a deputy chief sometimes has to deal with.

So where’s the end of this story? Hammer said the woman the woman was evicted for not paying rent, but was that only after Brady and Sanders figured out a few ways to get her out of there? It’s not right for the city to suggest that the deputy chief breached the law without adding evidence of his guilt. It looks petty and vindictive. The city decided to ‘drill down’ on Randall Brady. Take that in any context you want.
