According to a report in today?s Charlotte Business Journal, aging baby boomers are creating a new wave of entrepreneurial activity in the US.

Citing a recent Kaufmann Foundation study, “The Coming Entrepreneurship Boom,” the United States might be on the cusp of an entrepreneurship boom?not in spite of an aging population but because of it.

The report says,

?These factors include the shifting age distribution of the country, the continued decline of lifetime employment, the experience and tacit knowledge such employees carry with them, and the effects of the 2008-2009 recession on established sectors of the economy.

Economists know that entrepreneurship will drive the economy back to health.?

But who is behind the wheel in North Carolina?  How will a $1Billion tax increase affect entrepreneurship in North Carolina?  If they want to get the economy going, perhaps budget writers need to re-think the income tax, franchise tax, and new taxes on service industries they are considering.  Let’s hope they’re not asleep at the wheel.
