The drumbeat in support of a sales tax hike in Orange County has begun, as evidenced by this column by a Chapel Hill attorney. The piece starts out as a recitation of the county manager’s budget proposal and then ends with the predictable conclusion that — ta da! — the county needs citizens to hand over even more money to fund government programs. This will no doubt be just one of many such columns, speeches and other communications from Chapel Hill and Carrboro elitists, some of whom have already shown they are quite comfortable putting the tax hike on the ballot at a time that clearly disenfranches the county’s more conservative rural voters who helped defeat the quarter-cent sales tax hike last November.
