In this column, Andrew Kindman of the Duke Chronicle manages to take both the high road and the low road when discussing the “havoc” of Karl Rove’s December speech on campus. You may recall the audience included some very rude and immature people, including someone who yelled to Rove that he was a “murderer,” according to this story by the Raleigh News & Observer’s Rob Christensen. It is a shame that Mr. Kindman endorses heckling of a speaker as “fair” as long as you do it as the speaker is entering or leaving the room, but not while he/she is speaking. The reality is that heckling — whether it comes from the left, right, or center — is the speciality of those who don’t have a defensible argument.
