Thank goodness that WFAE has the common-sense to wonder about Duke Energy’s role as the primary sponsor and underwriter of the DNC in Uptown next year.

You just cannot wish away the disconnect between the DNC’s pledge not to accept corporate donations for its convention and the fact that the CLT effort is wholly dependent on a heavily regulated public utility corporation for its financial life.

It is clear how the next 16-18 months are gonna unfold — national outlets and a handful quizzical local reporters will ask tough questions of Jim Rogers and the local host committee on the convention’s finances while most of the local media stands by with their pom-poms at the ready.
