Charlotte city councilman and state senate hopeful Andy Dulin now really has me confused. Dulin told WBT’s Pete Kaliner over the weekend that not only does he not read Meck Deck, he thinks very few people do.

Kaliner had Dulin and GOP primary opponent Bob Rucho on to talk about their senate race. When Kaliner asked Dulin about why he wanted the state office, Dulin immediately referenced his work on the Charlotte city council. This led Kaliner to cite Meck Deck’s observation last week that Dulin’s TV campaign ads omit any reference to Dulin’s city council seat. Yet here Dulin was leading with that very experience.

Dulin responded that “probably very few” people read Meck Deck, “just those folks who are really tuned into it, but the mass majority of people out there don’t spend time on the computer reading blogs and entering into blogs.”

He added that he was “very proud” of his work on city council, but that he only had 30 seconds to convey his message on expensive TV air time. Kaliner doubled back to ask why Dulin didn’t use a graphic on the screen to mention his city council office and if it was a conscious decision to leave the information out. “It didn’t come up in the conversation,” Dulin responded.

Yet his city council seat is mentioned prominently in Dulin’s own campaign Web site. Which has a blog. That has never been used.

Bonus Observation: Guess city councilman Dulin would be shocked to learn that not only has one of the most powerul members of the body he aspires to serve in had occasion to read Meck Deck, but state Sen. Dan Clodfelter has provided some very illuminating and interesting posts on important issues of state and local finance. We thank him for that.
