As of last Thursday, here’s how supporters and opponents of Durham County’s proposed 1 percent tax on prepared foods are doing in terms of financial and in-kind contributions. From the News & Observer (emphasis is mine):
As of Thursday, Durham Citizens Against the Food Tax had received $26,570 worth of advertising air time and materials from Americans for Prosperity, according to reports filed at the Durham County Board of Elections. The pro-tax Durham Prepared Meal Tax Committee had received $91,550 in cash and in-kind contributions.
In short, the pro-tax campaign has more than a 3-to-1 advantage.
