Stunning lack of judgment. From ABC 11:

The Durham County School Board said Thursday it has reprimanded Superintendent Eric Becoats after an investigation showed he acted inappropriately by using a school activity bus and driver on two occasions in June.

The bus was used to transport Dr. Becoats’ friends and family to private events over the course of the weekend, including a trip to Southpoint Mall.

Becoats has apologized. ABC 11 also reports it’s not the first time in his career that Becoats has used public assets for personal business.

The Herald-Sun’s story adds more detail about the possible reason Becoats used the bus.

The Herald-Sun obtained the amended invoice, which is tagged for “Graduation Exercises.” The weekend of June 7 and 8, his son graduated with the Hillside High School senior class. DPS said they were unable to confirm if his son’s graduation and the bus trips were related.

The invoice showed that the bus traveled a total of 100 miles and that the driver was used for 21 hours over the span of two days.
