Durham City Councilman Eugene Brown is really irked that the Chapel Hill council seems to have a better relationship with its state legislative delegation than the Durham council has with its legislative peers. Brown’s gripe is over Durham’s failed effort to get legislative support to hike Durham’s vehicle fee. Chapel Hill got approval for a hike.

It’s always interesting to watch when a powerful person comes up against a more powerful person. Or in this case, a more powerful group of people. According to the Herald-Sun story (emphasis is mine):

News of Chapel Hill’s success in getting an increase went down poorly with City Councilman Eugene Brown, the first this year to suggest that Durham raise its fee.

“Here’s the question: Did they have to go genuflect before their delegation to get them to raise it?” Brown complained on Monday.

Perhaps Councilman Brown now understands how some Durham taxpayers feel when they try to get Brown and other Durham council members to listen to their point of view on spending and taxation issues.
