Bobcat Johnson has topped himself. In town and available only because his daughter’s Charlotte Jumpers’ Classic is taking up the Uptown Arena for the next few days — think we’ll get attendance figures on that? — Johnson actually was interviewed by the Uptown paper of record. And to Jefferson George’s eternal credit, he posed a real man-on-the-street question:
Q. For fans already at the games, why does a beer cost $7?
When I talk about value proposition, that’s exactly what I mean. I have no idea why a beer costs $7. But if it’s causing fans to say, “I’m not going to pay this for a ticket, I’m not going to pay this for parking, I’m not going to spend this much time driving down there AND pay for a $7 beer,” then we gotta do something about the $7 beer.
Classic. I have no idea why a beer costs $7. Neither do we, Bob. In fact, I would fall over dead we’re the paper to run with this meme until someone at the Arena can answer the question — then give us a big graph on the cost break-down of a beer. Just beat it into the ground.
Bonus Observation: Bobcat coach Sam Vincent is history. All over but the shouting. Another stellar hire by Front-office MJ, the exact opposite of On-court MJ in terms of performance. New faces? Maybe George Karl if Denver misses the playoffs and the Nuggets want to re-load.
