Former high school football coach (?) Ray Durham has been chosen by Governor Easley to represent the 2nd Education District (Brunswick, Carteret, Craven, Duplin, Greene, Jones, Lenoir, New Hanover, Onslow, Pamlico, Pender, Sampson, and Wayne counties) on the State Board of Education.
The seat has been vacant for quite a while.
