Carolina Journal‘s efforts to investigate scandal surrounding former Gov. Mike Easley continue to attract attention. The State Port Pilot recently mentioned CJ‘s investigative work (The Charlotte Observer and Carolina Journal, a publication
of the John Locke Foundation, both reported years ago on a land purchase Easley made in Carteret County
)
, and the Durham Herald-Sun mentioned CJ in a recent editorial on Easley’s troubles. ([T]he State Board of Elections has ordered Easley’s campaign files closed, meaning a criminal investigation is underway.
The official action was preceded by articles in the Carolina Journal
and The News & Observer raising questions about Easley’s accepting
free plane rides, free cars, and getting special deals on real estate.

When he’s not chasing the Easley story, CJ Executive Editor Don Carrington often leaps out of airplanes. He discussed that pursuit during an appearance this morning on WPTF Radio.
