Gov. Mike Easley excused the huge amount of taxpayers’ money he and his wife have spent traveling abroad by saying:

“It costs what it costs,” Easley said. “I wish it didn’t cost that much, but you know, let’s be honest about it. A cheeseburger and onion rings is $60 over there. The dollar is very, very weak now.”

Well, maybe if you’re buying your burger at Maxim’s or Tour d’Argent. But if you just want a hamburger in Paris you can get one at McDonald’s, Quick Burger or TGI Friday’s. Or you can go to Breakfast In America at 17 rue des Ecoles, a great place that has the feel of an American diner. A BIA Burger with fries and a drink there will set you back 12.45 Euros, or $19.78 USD.

At those prices the governor, Mary and a State Trooper could each have a hamburger for less than $60.
