One would think, with $2 billion in overtaxation, that the Governor who wants to improve education would understand that stopping the fiscal bleeding in Medicaid would be a priority. Not so according to the latest budget.
It’s important to note that NC is the ONLY state in the nation that requires local government to pay a portion of this program and our state has some of the most lax eligibility requirements in the nation. In fact, the local statewide burden is around $500 million. Some counties spend more on Medicaid than k-12 school construction, some have more Medicaid eligible than working.
Governor, counties are currently unable to build schools because they’re strapped with Medicaid. 49 other states understand this. In the rural counties across this state, the single greatest thing you can do to help them educationally is allow their counties to build schools by fixing Medicaid!!
