Like David Price, Gov. Mike Easley has been conspicuously silent on the Mike Nifong circus. As TIME magazine reports:

The North Carolina governor’s office, which appointed him to the post, could also ask him to resign from office. Gov. Mike Easley declined to comment publicly Friday.

While Price only represents half-million-plus citizens in the Triangle, Easley is the man who foisted Nifong on us when he appointed him to replace Jim Hardin. If anyone owes Durham an apology, it’s Easley, but I won’t hold my breath. I wonder if, as he sits in his beach house this holiday, he is saying to himself, “If I had only appointed Freda Black in the first place…”
