Some people tout the economic, social, health, and environmental benefits of buying all food locally. Some have dubbed this effort the “100-mile diet.”

Pierre Desrochers, associate professor of geography at the University of Toronto, rebutted the “buy local” arguments during a presentation today to the John Locke Foundation’s Shaftesbury Society. In the video clip below, Desrochers explains the food security implications of relying solely on locally produced food.
