Here’s more on the General Assembly’s great notion that to educate children we must dupe adults. That is, we will get them to pay twice as much to fund coercive advertising gimmicks intended to suppress wisdom in lieu of impulse, and compel them to replace prudent management of household resources with bad risk. Don’t complain. It will create jobs for advertisers and lottery officials.

That sounded bad, so here’s the unspun version. The legislature wants to fund its increases in teacher pay by doubling expenditures on lottery advertising. Lottery revenues, of course, merely supplant education funds so they may be wasted on government initiatives with less public support.
