North Carolina teachers continue to top the national average in teacher compensation, a fact John Locke Foundation Education Policy Analyst Terry Stoops reinforced this week with his latest annual teacher pay report. The Mint Hill Times picked up the story, and Stoops discussed his report — along with other education issues the General Assembly is likely to consider this year — during an appearance on Lockwood Phillips’ “Viewpoints Radio” program on WTKF. Meanwhile, a Fayetteville Observer letter writer recently offered Stoops “kudos” for the op-ed column he authored on teacher certification. (“Stoops accurately describes the benefits of providing alternative routes to the classroom.”) In other education-related news, Lindalyn Kakadelis of the N.C. Education Alliance contributed to an upcoming News & Observer report comparing progress on student test scores in the Wake and Charlotte-Mecklenburg public school systems.
