Education Week released the 2019 Quality Counts Report Card.  The report card evaluates state public school systems using three categories: Chance for Success, School Finance, and K-12 Achievement.

North Carolina earned a C+ for Chance for Success, a D for School Finance, and a C- for K-12 Achievement.  The overall grade was a C-.

In the Southeast, North Carolina essentially tied Kentucky and ranked higher than Tennessee, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana.  Georgia, Florida, and Virginia ranked highest in the region.

New Jersey took the top spot, while New Mexico was dead last.
