Boy, the Breck Girl is in for it now.

The Beltway media now smells blood in the water. That and a week of getting burning on the John Edwards love child story by blogs and alt-media have reporters eager to cover what they had once ignored. Yesterday Edwards was doing the ignoring according to Lisa Zagaroli:

On Wednesday, Edwards apparently exited through a side area used by the kitchen staff at Washington’s historic Hotel Monaco.

Edwards emerged near the rear of the hotel with two men. When approached by a Charlotte Observer reporter, Edwards said, “Can’t do it now, I’m sorry” and quickly walked past.

Asked about the Beverly Hilton last week, Edwards said “sorry” and got into a waiting car with the other men. Asked twice more to address the Enquirer story, Edwards was silent until the car doors were closed.

Meanwhile the N&O relates that Edwards has pulled the plug on a $600K college scholarship program he set up during the presidential campaign at a Greene County high school. The College for Everyone was funded by a non-profit set up by Edwards.

I’m guessing the next move is for Edwards to announce he is entering “treatment” for one thing or another. Is that the next official damage control move in these deals?

Update: Oh, and that baby’s mama is nuts. If the Breck Girl was drawn to this type of woman, there are certain to be others out there. Sorry, a guy just does not all of a sudden start falling for crazy blondes he meets in bars.

Update II: McClatchy goes after the birth certificate. Let’s be clear how this worked. The Enquirer reports the name of the baby and the hospital of record, daring the non-tabloids to look up the birth certificate, which the Enquirer almost certainly has already done. But by not reporting the absence of a named father, the tab leaves a high-hanging curve over the plate. Not by accident.
